What are the best things about art fairs

Art fairs are relaxing, a chance to observe many other art styles and techniques in a short time while munching a hot dog. The pressure of the art critique in business is much more intense. At an art fair you don't have the next meeting or deadline to worry about. You can contemplate an art work as long as you want.

Best show ever and why

My best show was Funky Ferndale a few years ago. There was a threat of rain and the band supposed to perform on Sunday did not show up. I came back to the art fair to see the show because as a musician I am busy performing. The artists asked me to perform when the band didne show. They said my music helps their sales and gets them through a long day. Someone said "Here is $50, go set up." By the time I came back withy first load of equipment they had raised much more. My music is a background vibe on the sophisticated side that fits the art fair atmosphere well, but to have artists take up a collection was a bit shocking. It was fun.

Worst show ever and why

Boca Raton some years ago. A 40 mile an hour wind came up and played havoc with everyone. Tents were blowing over. I was talking to a glass artist and a piece of heavy palm tree almost hit us in the head. It would have crushed his glass pieces, landing but a few inches away.

What is one fun fact about yourself?

I enjoy physical challenges. I am a former marathon run new who closed his architectural business down for 1 1/2 years to run full and half marathons around the world. Had a blast. At an art fair I try to perform 7 hours without a break... or at least a few minutes for a hot dog and a coke. I can do 3 or 4 hours easy. I've done 7 hours straight twice. The trick is to stand up once in a while to get the blood flowing. (As a percussion artist I sit but have solos where you have to stand.) You have to pick the right song that has a standing solo part at the right time.
