What are the best things about art fairs
Sharing your craft with the public, public interaction in general, getting out of the studio, feedback about new works, finding your following, gleaning custom orders, networking, creating a beautiful display, seeing my artist friends--it's our social life :-)
Best show ever and why
Sunriver Faire, Bend, Oregon. I would say Contemporary Crafts, formerly in Santa Monica, Calif....but part of Sunriver is it's proximity to home. I have a continuous good show there, can drive right up to booth space on even ground, weather is usually terrific, regular flow of buying patrons, good custom orders, I get contacts for other higher end shows while there, terrific "green room" , volunteers make us feel so valuable, they bring us water and snacks daily, booth sitters are ideal types for me, easy application process, very personal, great booth fee price for the return....I could go on.
Worst show ever and why
Too many to remember names, but great to bring up when we're having rounds of beers...we love to laugh about the groaners!
Who referred you to ArtFairInsiders.com? Please be specific.
I searched internet a few years ago for a good show reference site.
What is one fun fact about yourself?
Several of us on Alberta Street in NE Portland, Oregon had opened up shops, when Alberta was still a crusty "hood". One of the building owners suggested we have a first Thursday like the elite one on the other side of the river. I sarcastlcally said, "More like last Thursday in the hood"....the gallery owner next door and I high fived and laughed....Perfect! And Last Thursday on Alberta was born on my shop doorstep. It's become a well known unicorn kind of attraction in Portland...a life of it's own....proud of that!
