What are the best things about art fairs
The comraderie - it's very soul-nourishing to celebrate a kindred passion for the arts with others who hand-craft beautiful things. We inspire and motivate each other as a whole, and stengthen a vital industry of tradition and integrity. Being able to connect and network with colleagues and clients, and getting direct feedback about your work is wonderful.
Best show ever and why
Best show I ever did was the Ontario Renaissance Festival from 2000 - 2004. Tightly juired for handcrafted items, there was everythign from blacksmithing to coopers to hand-forged swords, baked goods and blended teas. The venue had an incredible "vibe" and everyone one of us was thrilled to be a part it.
Worst show ever and why
Cannot recall the venue exactly, but about a decade ago, I showed up for a venue, only to discover that over 50% of the booths had jewellery, most of whom were juired for other mediums but choose to bring "a friend's work", or "just started making some". Management never bothered to recitfy this, and those few of us who paid to be there with our own handcrated work suffered for it.
