First show ever

I'm not even sure of the year. 2003 or so, when I was still selling for Home Interiors. My husband and I constructed a booth of plywood, no roof, and we spent most of the show holding the thing up. This was a local street festival and we have been exhibiting there ever since. In 2006 I left HI and by 2007 I was making my own natural wax candles. We still show at Mountain Magic for old times sake.

What are the best things about art fairs

The fun, the people, and the challenges of getting a crafting business off the ground.

Best show ever and why

December 2009 at the Buchanan Farmers Market. This is a local event, usually a bit slow. There are usually about 6-8 vendors. This year, in spite of the economy, the shoppers were buying! This is not a show that pulls in millions, but I hope it is an indication of good things to come in 2010

Worst show ever and why

Mountain Magic 2009. We were at the far end of town near the antique autos and stuck between a woman selling cheap sunglasses and a group selling Virginia Tech merchandise. People who did walk that far wanted to see the cars, not shop. Heard from the few customers that did drop by that they usually didn't walk that far and neither did their friends. Next year this promoter is going to get *detailed* instructions on the application!
