Yet another booth shot

I have needed a booth shot for a while and did have one done last year, but really wasn’t happy with it.  Attached is my new one with my new tent.  I know most of you say don’t use covered tables… my pieces are very light and I just don’t thing they would be stable enough on pedestals.  So, let me know what you think.

  • Okay, I'm not the expert that Larry is, but here is my two cents. I like what you did with the divider and wish you had another one. I'd like to see you stay with the painted divider on the left wall of the booth. Get rid of the table on the right side and use another divider with attached shelves. Then, center the display unit on the back wall. RC Gorman would disagree with the size of the picture (as Larry wants it smaller), I like the larger than life version, if you use it.  If you center the display unit. I believe you will have room for two large photos of your work on either side of the unit. Very nice work.

    • Ok, I have been playing and this is totally a fake shot…but it did make me thing about something.  The next time I have my tent up to take booth shots I think I will take one with it empty and take shots of each of my display pieces so I can play with the layout on the computer.

Anyways, I removed the table and place another divider on the other side with a shelf.  I do like the shelf idea; I just don’t think it will work without things hitting the ground.  I also centered the large display, it is 6’ wide and with only 2’ on either side I don’t think placing a photo in the small area will be beneficial to the look of the booth…

      • Chris,

I love it. So, clean and colorful .... now ... you need a carpet to pull the look from good to great. I looked up a couple of pieces on www.OutdoorRugsOnly.com they are a great company with free shipping and I can attest to the quality of their products. There is a special right now on some of these. Take a look at the two I picked for you. (I'm being a bit forward ... I know ... but ... I got excited about what you are doing.)

The first rug is not the warm look that I started out searching for ... however, the colors of your work and the multi-colored daisy design just seemed to call out to me when I went past the listing. It is the file called PotterBoothwithMultiColorDaisy. I tried to put it into your picture just using Draw. The second file is just the rug alone for you to use your photoshop and layer it in yourself. (For a much better result ... I am certain). :-)

The second rug and third picture is the warm look that I started out searching for ... it works well with your work ... but ... and that was a big BUT ... I started falling in love with the first rug for your display. Yes, the eye may be somewhat drawn to the rug, but it does not overwhelm your work and the colors pull the visual impression together. The warm look of the earth tones does not compete with your work, but it does not pull the pieces together. One might say that it provides a calm and warm complement to your pieces.

Just a few thoughts. I hope this was helpful.

Sorry, just had to have some fun late on a Friday!

          • Solid with no distracting pattern. At least for the booth picture. Now maybe if it was a puppy with glasses...

        • Ok, I have a question about using a rug...I know a lot of people use them but I have one major concern, because I saw this happen and had to help.  I was at a show a few years ago and the lady across from us had a outdoor rug in her boot on the pavement.  Anyways a lady in a motorized wheel chair attempted to go into her booth, one of the back wheels got stuck on the rug so she tried to back up...no luck...forward... no luck...several times she tried and got to the point she just couldn't move. I went over to see if I could help, but by this time the material from the rug had wrapped around the wheel shaft.  Now I don't know if there was a lose thread to whatever on the rug before this happened, but we ended up cutting the rug free and pulling the fibers from around the wheel shaft the best we could.  The lady was unable to stand so we had to do all of this with her still in the chair...I know this could be a once in a life time thing to happen, but I think of it at every show when I see someone with a rug in their booth.

          • Chris,

I thought you might like to see the carpet I use in my booth. It is very traditional and lends a bit of elegance to the set-up. Given that my work is Heirloom style Rosaries and Religious Jewelry ... the Medallion themed rug seemed to be a good fit.  See the attached file.

          • Chris,

I have never had a problem with my rug and it makes a tremendous difference in the look of the booth. It is like getting all dressed up to go out and not putting on a necklace and earrings. The look just is not "put together or finished."

BTW, I am disabled and use an electric scooter. The only carpets with which I have had trouble are ones where someone tried to use a cut carpet instead of a finished edge carpet.

The other trick to making certain you do not have problems with the rug is ... roll it for storage with the top side out and not in as most people do. If you roll it with the top out ... the edge will always lay down nicely and not roll up.

    • Lois, thank you very much for the input on my new booth shot.  I do have another divider that I use and I did another setup where it was on the other wall with the table in the center front.  It doesn’t look as open as the one I posted so I will not be using it for a jury photo.  I know a lot of people don’t like tables and I appreciate your comment about using shelves…that’s why I have the large heavy (break down) piece in the back.  If I did not use the tables, and went with shelves attached to the dividers, I think I would end up with my things on the ground.  They are made from gourds, so they are extremely light weight.  I have contemplated making shelves, but then I would need to come up with something to make sure they didn’t fall off the shelves.  Last year, I had one piece on the end of the table and the wind just kept sending it down the aisle, thankfully it didn’t get damaged.  I want people to be able to pick them up and look at them without them being tethered to a line or other device.  That is why I don’t use my folding shelves at outside shows.  The first time I did, the wind pushed on the outside wall and into the self, I had to make a quick dash and managed to block all but one piece from hitting the pavement we were on at the time.  Let’s say it was a nice piece before that happened.  That’s when my husband came up with the fold down shelving unit you see in the back.  Easy to put up and take down, so screws, just pressure fits together and it isn’t going anywhere once it is set up.  I still have to be aware of any wind knocking over some of the smaller pieces, but I don’t have to worry about the unit blowing over.    I’m open to suggestions of how to keep them on shelves if anyone has an idea.
