Hey all, I'm Wanaree and I'm an artist (this is the part everybody says "hi wanaree") I would have to say one of the best things about this site, aside from the invaluable information, is the chance to experience and share artist's art fair neurosis. I'm totally not being sarcastic, at all, I've been doing shows for four years, with all the crazy ups and downs, usually finding the hardest way possible, and thinking "Am I the only one that wants to jam a fork in my brain?" No, apparently not. No, I'm not the only one squinting at a calender trying to make show acceptences magically appeared, followed a few months later by the same ritual in order to make good weather and great attendence manifest. No, I'm not the only one making and remaking and remaking, again, my booth. No, I'm not the only one flying high one week then eating handfuls of fustration the next. Mostly, no I'm not totally bonkers for loving it all and hating it all, all at the same time. People like to say "do what you love" with sparkles in their eyes, and a sigh on their lips. What they sometimes forget to tell you is, "you'd better love it, or you ain't gonna make it." I've seen varitions of that phrase a lot on disscussions here, and I'd have to say, how refreshing. Generally, as artists, we are our own greatest critics, this sometimes make us a little... paranoid, maybe is the word I'm looking for? With no tangable way to figure why we do or do not get into a show, why we do or not do well with sales, weither that show is just having an uncommonly down year or is just a bad show (the list goes on and on,) this site gives us novices a glimmer of the understanding that usually can only be earn through 30 years of hard knocks. Thank-you all you veterans, for sharing your knowlege, because, well, you don't have to . I know I sure appreciate it, though I don't always chime in on a disscusion to go "AMEN, BROTHER (or sister)!!" Thanks Connie for creating this outlet, thank-you promoters and organizers for giving us a peek into your sometimes mysterious and elusive process, and thank-you fellow artists, now at least I know I'm not the only wonky toy on misfit island. May those vengeful weather gods see only our backsides!
