I contribute and I read. But folks you are not giving back much info. We all know where the shows are. So do not think you are giving away valuable info by not blogging. We need to know the setup--how much storage do we have. What kind of show is it? Craft-friendly--fine art-lowend, highend. These are all helpful items to blog about. PLUS I WANT TO KNOW WHERE THE RESTAURANT IS THAT HAS 50 TEQUILAS TO CHOOSE FROM--lets get our priorities right here. Seriously, let us see more blogging with real info and not the feelgood comments that I read most of the time-How is that for a gernade, Ronnie? Miss ya-Nels

I'm glad you had the guts to bring it up... I hope people don't get tight lipped about what they experience at shows they exhibit in.
Sharing the type of information you get from exhibiting at a show has little chance of affecting you personally. Professional artists understand this and freely give advice on shows they attend.... Look at Mike Albin's website: http://mikealbin.com/index.htm
    Click on 'show reviews'...
He gives detailed information on every show he attends, with a list going back many years!
His comments really help artists avoid wasting their time and money applying to the wrong type of shows for them. If a show mostly sells traditional themed 2d art, and not abstracts, then that information would help keep someone who would had little chance of selling their abstract paintings from an aggravating weekend.
Many shows have price ranges and favored styles. Knowing this would help everyone pick the shows that will be best for them.
Imagine if this website had lists of reviews like Mike Albins, but from all the members!
It would make life easier, less stressful and more profitable for everyone.

    Thanks,
    Chip

  • Good for you, Nels! I'm getting a little frustrated with the silence myself...yet I've seen the statistics on lurkers and participants - and it is something like 1%!! You might send this post to your "friends" on the network...that sometimes works.

As for the tequila - my favorite time was when I was on a kayaking/camping trip in Baja and when we got into La Paz I was ready to turn in -- but some fellow travelers convinced me to join them at a tequila bar and we had a fabulous time and a great tasting!
  • Hey Nels, I just joined and it is great if artists have a place to go to find about what's really going on at the shows without having to pay for it. (see my post in blogs for the Cottonwood Show) The only reason I would buy sourcebook ever again is to see the artists comments on the shows... So I will start putting up posts for shows I've done. Not sure I can help you w/ the tequilas... but I'll start doing some research for you.

I also feel that we (artists) are pretty much powerless to change any unfair treatment from organizers. There is always someone right behind us that would be glad to have our space. This is a good place to start anyway.
