It is easy. It is raining in Saugatuck as we speak(That means I can't play golf). Don't have a show this weekend. So idle fingers are at work on the computer. Must defend against the old English nannies who are busting me over commas. At least I know what they are and what they can do. Which is better than I can say for a number of items that are written on this site. Also it gives an old Eagle Scout (with 35 merit badges, top that Sargant) great pleasure to help others in distress. This is a tough biz right now, and the end is not in sight. So we all can use help and good info(OMG! can I do that?????)

  • Heading to Guild show in Perrysburg this weekend. Supposed to rain Fri. and sat.--eek!--Nels
  • Actually, it is raining again today so where are you, Nels?

I went to the Lake yesterday -- kept driving north -- found sunshine in Grand Haven. Glorious day! Wishing you that weather at your next art fair.
  • Uncle Nels takes good care of his flock.

By the way, Nanny says Hi.
  • I am laughing at the whole grammar thing going on here. I am taking it as humor and NOT taking it seriously. After all if it helps some people to re-read their posts before clicking "Add Reply" - good. I know I am not perfect - I gloss over things all the time especially on my website. The only thing I cannot stand are people who do not use proper grammar and/or ignore spell check in serious business emails/letters. I cannot take those people seriously and often do not respond - if it is really bad. When I promoted my own art fairs last year one applicant had their 12 year old daughter fill out the application - it was horrible. It didn't make sense, I couldn't read it, and a lot of sections were not filled out. I had to call the person back and when they told me their their daughter filled it out - I told them flat out, NO they will not be accepted into the event and they tried 2 other times applying, both applications were rejected because of the same errors being made. Makes me wonder how many others do this - submit applications that are just not filled out properly? Probably a lot... hmmm sounds like a good topic to discuss??? The wheels are always turning. I am kinda like you, Nels. Idle time makes for idle minds and find myself randomly commenting on this site. Regardless, oh what a great site to just talk shop!!!
  • Hi Nels
Thank goodness people can express their views and ask their questions without the fear of being attacked for bad SPELLING,english, grammar, sentence structure or punctuation.
I hope everybody in this Forum, whether a "newby" or a seasoned veteran will always participate without fear for whatever reason.
We are in this together and can learn from each other.
  • Good point, William.

We all love to hear what Nels has to say!

Actually, today I was thinking about co-authoring with him a book about the tequila bars of the U.S. as art fair necessities. Sort of like any art fair worth its salt would have listed in their amenities the best tequila in town.

    Nels,

Looks like we are going to have to find something for you to do! Not to worry about the punctuation thing - its the clarity of the thought that counts. All the rest - split infinitives, dangling participles, stray commas - is all small stuff. I know a lot of fellow academics who can speak and write quite well, unfortunately, a lot of them have nothing to say that is worth hearing or reading.
