After a long absence from doing art fairs, I've started doing shows again so have gotten my fair share of rejections over the last 9 months... Got one for a one day show in Upper Arlington, OH and actually got the jury feedback about my work upon request.  First time I've had that offered and there were some valid points.  The feedback read like this....

*not developed enough

*would like to see additional forms

*would like to see more attention to the repeat patterning happening in the surface

They also provided my score and the cutoff scoring which was nice.  Bottom line, it's not what they were looking for which is fine.  I've been toying with the idea of adding an additional vessel type to my submission photos and probably will.  The other two points are subjective based on their background so won't stress overly much.  I'm always looking to grow my style and range and will do that in my own time.

Now I want to see the comments from those shows where I was accepted.... or should being accepted be enough?

  • Kathy,

Did you have to ask for the feedback or did they volunteer it?  I've been rejected from some and would like the feedback.  I know the jury process can be subjective, but I would like to have feedback like you recieved to get a better idea of what they were looking for.

Regarding your question, I think getting feedback on not being accepted would be sufficient for me.  Not sure I'm interested in the feedback on the ones where I did get accepted.

    • Jim,

they indicated in the email that it was available upon request so I requested it...

  • Hello Kathy, that is great that they sent you the jury feedback.  Seems like the only feedback that you really need to worry about is the ones that result in rejection.  I think I would concentrate on that.  Do you have any shows for this summer?

    • Hi Jacki!

I'm doing a show in Worthington, OH in June and one in Dayton in August.  and then the shows start up again after Labor Day in the Carolina's so will stay closer to home then.  I have a lot of family in Ohio so am doing shows up there so they can see what I've been working on.

Truthfully, trying to get inventory built up to do more than a handful of shows is a challenge.  Bought a larger kiln and am working on streamlining my finishing processes so we'll see what happens...
