The Holiday art shows are really rolling out. What are you doing this weekend? Will you be in Novi, MI, at the Great Lakes Art Fair, in Lexington, KY, for the Lexington Arts & Crafts Show, in Plano, TX, for Paragon's Greater Dallas Fine Art Festival, or maybe Gaithersburg, Boca Raton, Jacksonville. It looks like a busy weekend to me.

Some of you will be in Evansville as Hot Works hosts their inaugural event there. Here is a really nice article from the Evansville Courier-Press about that one: http://www.courierpress.com/news/2012/nov/14/local-art-in-hand/

  • I am setting up a Thanksgiving/Christmas show at a convention center here in the smoky mtns, Gatlinburg, TN. The first show is 5 days. The second is 7. Ive done this show for 5 yrs and do rather well. The past couple of years sales were down but I have a good feeling about this year. It is an indoor show which I LOOOVE but in between the first and second show we have to shlep all of our art upstairs(GRR!!) and set it up again in a new location. Pretty odd but its the way this show is run.

Overall I do well because my art is great for gifts. Happy Gobble day everyone!
  • Me, wish I had something to report for my weekend of interest. It revolves around the U. of Michigan football game (Go Blue!), catching up on my websites, and cooking and reading, an interesting book about wisdom and aging and Michael Lewis' Boomerang.

  • I am at home making my sculptures and trying to get the menu ready for Thanksgiving.  I've also applied to a couple of shows.

  • There are no shows I know of south of Jacksonville FL, so I found out about a free spot at the nearby Charlotte County Nature Festival.  Free 10x10 spot in a big-top tent (no tent setup, yay!).  I'm using it solely as an opportunity to offload some of my dead inventory.  So I created signs saying "Clean the Nest Sale!" and will sell as many 16x20, 11x14, and even 8x10 mat sizes as I can, at deep discounts.

It's also an opportunity to test out my new Square (no more keying cc's into my iPhone, yay!) before the show season starts in earnest next week.

    • Way to go, Geoff! What's not to like about this situation. Clean that nest and report back. Who ever heard of a free booth space? We need some more of these opportunities.
      • Folks crowded around the low-cost 16x20s and 11x14s, and even the 8x10s (which I no longer carry at regular shows. 2013 Calendars sold nicely.   Even sold a few matted prints still in my inventory, at regular prices.  My neighbor was/is a famous political cartoonist, now retired...we swapped lots of stories about the newspaper biz.  The Square worked perfectly.  Great day.  Feel like I "stole one" today!

        • A well deserved "steal." Is this only one day?

          • yes.  it was 9:30 to 3.  On the way home by 3:30, since I had no tent to set up.  Easy.

  • Here's a very sweet one day show organized by artists in Pleasant Ridge, MI, - - a lovely suburb just north of Detroit: http://www.theoaklandpress.com/articles/2012/11/15/news/local_news/...

  • Best of the Northwest - Seattle WA, show is held in the cruise ship terminal in downtown Seattle.  For us this has historically one of our top 5 shows of the year and is the biggest fine art show in November for the Pacific NW region.
