We know a bunch of our members are busy cleaning up from the storm at the Boardwalk Art Show in Virginia Beach. Suzanne Ens lost her entire tent, but had luckily removed her artwork. You can read more about this storm in other threads.

I want to commend the show organizers for their solid safety plan which included closing the show early in anticipation of high winds, posting information for the artists on their website and Facebook pages and working with the police and security to allow access to booths. Good job.

Mary Johnston is in the 2nd Annual ArtiGras in New Buffalo, MI, an Amdur show.

A bunch of folks are in Pittsburgh -- please report in. Here is some background info about the Three Rivers show: http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/ae/art-architecture/three-rivers-arts-festival-has-a-busy-creativity-zone-691479/

We doubt that Brett Miley made it to South Bend for the Leeper Park show after her auto accident in Kansas last weekend.

Richard Sherer, how are those fires coming in Colorado? Any progress in keeping them under control?

But what else this weekend?

  • At Worthington, Ohio doing Art on the Green. Britt Hallowell is two booths down from me. we had a nice talk today :-). Yesterday started off very well quickly but fizzled just past noon and never recovered. Today is intermittent drizzles and attendance is sparse. It's starting to look like early bailout. More on this show later.
    • It was great meeting you! Sorry the didn't turn out to be a good one for you.
      • Oh, it could have been worse ;-) At least it was break even. Last year were some shows that were big time losses, like where I drove 800 miles to Minneapolis just to rack up about $200 in sales. Now that was one that didn't turn out well =8-O
        • I think these threads come on too late for me, I pack ,p early. so I'm putting this coming weekend here:

Last weekend I was in Worthington, too.

This coming weekend, June 20, 21, it will be Manayunk Phila.

          • How was Worthington for you? It seemed to be all over the place with some doing well and others not so well. The photographer across from me said they didn't do well and were way down from last year and another photographer at the upper corner of the NE quadrant  didn't do well either. The last one was also the one whose work was on the cover of the program.

I'll be back in Columbus this weekend again for the Easton Art Affair.

            • I'll be seeing you this weekend at Easton. It's always great for me but doesn't seem to be the case for most.
            • I didn't talk to anyone but I was back in my regular spot after two years off.

Many of the people in my quad NW were new to me. So that is a bad sign.

I didn't see the program cover, but my work was featured on the postcard, the red raku pot in the bottom left corner. Many of my sales were from customers who have been buying from me for awhile and were glad to see me return, the opposite of what I expected. One old customer bought several pieces from me, so she pushed up my $$ amount. I feel that the people were just not there, I have seen a larger crowd in the past, and not many new buyers, at least not for me.

The bad side of this is that I probably did better than most of my neighbors, at least I had business in my booth, what my husband and I saw from our booth was not much going on anywhere else. Our neighbor who has always been beside us was selling, but not like in previous years, we didn't compare notes but I could see them not as busy as usual.

It was not enough money for me to justify the travelling, although I enjoyed going back to Ohio. I moved to PA from Ohio a few years ago.

I would say that it would be a good show for someone to do once if they are new?? But myself, I didn't see many new customers- so who knows?

  • Connie, we spend the summer season in Michigan.  We live in Saugatuck and have a studio/gallery 5 miles away in South Holland.  Nels & Ellen are our neighbors.
