I know there are Florida shows ... but where?
I am "doing" my first art fair in 8 years ... off to Kalamazoo for the Garage Sale Art Fair where artists can sell their unsold work, seconds, pieces that didn't work, and anything art fair related. I'm taking photos from our archives plus an amazing array of art fair equipment. If you need anything for your booth I'll probably have it: tools, electrical, lighting system, batteries. And equipment from our framing studio: mat board, frames, mat cutter, shrink wrap machine, etc. More details here.
Frankly, I'm nervous that I'll be ready when the doors open. Will you be there?
What are you doing?

Cleaning my tent yesterday I scrubbed the roof today I'm cleaning the walls. So much fun
But nice to have a warm day to do this instead of a few days before the show when you have so many pressing things to do. 64 here today! Could have cleaned a tent but the outside hose is still frozen.
We have had beautiful weather on the weekends for several weeks hoping it holds out for March my 1st show of 2016 is in 2 weeks. I'm on the coast in Alabama so when things freeze here they usually thaw by noon. :)
I am working on more boxes for some upcoming shows. This is a new design using wood hinges and different textures. I might do the local arts market next weekend as a warm up for the shows.
wow - cool hinges, beautiful wood
Greg are you going to Shadows on the Teche on Saturday, March 6? What about Market at the Mill in New Roads in April?
No, I am not doing either of those shows Cindy. I might be at the Arts Market in Baton Rouge Saturday. After that all of my shows are out of state with the exception of Jazz Fest in New Orleans.
What do you know about the Mill in New Roads? Have you done that show before? Someone in Lafayette had mentioned it a couple of weeks ago.
Greg, I have not done the Mill at New Roads yet. However I have heard only good things about it. It is Friday-Sunday, so plenty of time for people to shop. I like the idea of its proximity to Baton Rouge, Zachary, and New Orleans. For shoppers coming from those areas it is an easy drive.
Hours are as follows:
Friday: 10:00 AM-4:00 PM, then 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM
Saturday: 10:00 AM-5:00 PM
Sunday: 10:00 AM-4:00 PM
They are encouraging artists and crafters to offer some sort of special on Friday evening. If you send in any promos or discounts ahead of time it'll be printed up ahead of time. I am not sure in what format, whether it's program or directory of the booths, etc.
I am a little confused on one thing so I need to contact them about it. On the website it states Friday night shopping is till 8:00 PM and in the letter to the artists/crafters it states till 10:00 PM. They will have live "musical combo" on Friday evening. It seems they are promoting the Friday night shopping as an event in itself. They will provide al shoppers a card with each booth's name. When a shopper visits the booth the artist is to highlight his/her booth. Those who visit every booth will get their card put in for a drawing.
Set up in on Thursday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM. Lunch is provided. I'll probably head out first thing on Thursday to get there by mid-morning. Since I'll be by myself (or with dd as my assistant) and I've never done this event before, I want plenty of time to get the lay of the land. It appears it is all indoors. I am trying to figure out how to best set up my booth. It is a different layout than usual. It is a 10x16 booth, as they all are. Very generous considering the booth fee is $150 for all 3 days. I will probably get some graph paper out and get dh to help me plan out 2-3 layouts for this size booth.
Greg, if you know anything about this show I'd love to hear it!
I don't know anything about the show but I was told that it is a nice show...but this is from someone that is not an artist. I looked it up and it is long hours on Friday. I don't like those marathon days.
It falls on a weekend i do not have a show planned...but it is held when we have 7 shows during a 2 month period...overkill top add anything else.
Yeah, that is quite a schedule you have. The closest I have come to that is 5 shows in 6 weeks, I think. After the show in New Roads I'll post a review.
