  • I've done one show in Vail; and in my opionion; the farmer's market they have every weekend has wrecked the art show scene there. The public had major sticker shock at the show I atteneded. It almost seemed that they had spent all of their money to get to Vail and had none left over for Art or anything else.
-I do very well in Beaver Creek, H.A's show.
  • Thanks for the input. I started this year's tour to the west, CA and AZ, and have noticed a dreadful economy in those areas (real estate collapse mainly). Lots of interest and complements at shows but people don't want to buy right now in the areas I was at. I'm hoping the eastern half of the US is bettter for me. I'm in OKC where I'm about midway between all the borders, so I've got many options as to where I want to go.

I can not tell you about Vail but Fountain Square is a filler show. You can make good sales but do not expect to break the bank. I will consider which is less expensive, closer to you and what show you doing next. For a example if you are doing Chery Creek I will just do Vail.

If you end doing Fountain Square, I hope we can meet.

    Good Luck
  • I haven't done the Vail festival, but I've been to Vail in the off(non-ski) season for a multi-day conference. It was beyond dead. Folks who wandered away from the hotel couldn't even find a restaurant to eat at. They were all closed. Living in Colorado, my feeling about the ski resorts in summer is why bother? They usually have some activities to try to draw folks in, like an alpine slide, mountain biking, and gondola rides but not much else. Traffic is slow, and the people who work in Vail don't live in Vail because of the cost so there are few actual residents of Vail proper. Plus even the government rates at the Vail hotels will make you choke. And you're isolated. The closest town is Eagle to the west on I-70 - it isn't an hour's drive but still a bit of a haul, and if you're coming from the east you have to drive over Vail Pass. I'm not entirely sure that's something I would tackle with my fully-loaded Jeep even in good weather. It's a dangerous stretch of road and you can get snow up there in the summer.

Unless you're dying to see Colorado I'd skip it.
