I'm an Oklahoma abstract acrylic painter and I'm looking into applications for the Richardson, TX Fall Cottonwood Arts show and the Georgetown, TX Art in the Square in Oct.
Anyone have experience with these two?

Could anyone that has done Cottonwood comment on the "framed art only" policy? I noticed they have a rule on their website that all 2D artwork should be "appropriately framed", or something to that effect. I have large (24x48) gallery wrapped type paintings on canvas that need no frame to look nice on a wall. Is this acceptable or are they firm on this rule? Thanks much.

Gallery Wraps are fine at the show. I've done the show several years now and there are several artists, including myself with canvas wraps.
I'm relatively new to Art Fair Insiders, we're jewelry artists who thus far have only done shows in the Pacific NW. However, we're thinking about our first long road trip and we have family in the Dallas / OKC areas so were thinking we could combine a family visit with a few shows in October.
Any advice based on the shows you did last year? Any insight into The Shops at LaCantera Art Festival in San Antonio? I noticed it's the same organizer as the Georgetown show.
The up side is that it's only about 4 hour drive for me, but booth fee is min. $450.

It's Texas, and Texans love their football. The show is fine iffin' you're a local, but if travel has to be factored in you might think a bit harder. It is a good show from a layout and organization perspective. A fun weekend if the weather holds, notsomuch if it rains. Sales, according to what we did and others around a 6 on a scale of 10.

My folks live in Georgetown, the show is on the square which is a fun venue.But. The demographic is primarily retired folks, the show then becomes entertainment. A friend on the circuit that does quite well just about everywhere was shut out in Georgetown a year or so back.
Cottonwood in the Fall. I have done this for a few years, and if the weather holds you stand a chance. If it rains, because most of the booths are on grass it's a mud pit. The other contributing factor is the Cowboys. If they play on Sunday, it's a ghost town. People come out after church and breakfast, and if it's a noon game you are not gonna see a crowd. If it's 3pm, then the morning and afternoon is good, but by kickoff. Crickets.
I love the venue, it's a good party.Well run and a tradition in the area. Most folks I know find the sales a bit soft. Load in/load outs are as organized as any,the artists party not one to miss.
Hi Mark! I've done Cottonwood spring and fall shows for the last 15 years or so. The show is in a park, one side fairly sunny the other side fairly shady. Electric is available for a fee. Be certain to have a hand truck since all load in and load out must be done on the pathway that winds through the park. The Boy Scouts are there and are happy to take donations to help expedite moving your booth by way of manpower and carts. I have always felt contemporary work sells well there. Quality work and a friendly staff make this Texas show a gem! Best wishes in applying and safe travels to the rest of your shows! Patricia
