Hello All,

We have applied for a show that posted that acceptances would go out May 15th. We included the self addressed stamped envelope for the return of CD (and booth check if not accepted) as instructed in the application documents. We know the application was received because the jury check cleared some time ago. Tomorrow it will be two weeks since notices were to have gone out. We live in an adjoining state so I think whatever their decision the notice has had time to arrive. Since the show is in three weeks, I have two questions.

1) Is it ever appropriate to contact the show coordinator when you have heard nothing?

2) If it is acceptable to contact the show director, how long should you wait until making contact?

Thanks

  • What are you waiting for? Call them immediately. It's always acceptable and always appropriate. In spite of what you have been told, calling them lets them know you really want to do the show. If they haven't cashed the check, they are either disorganized, made a mistake, or you got rejected.

I agree with Larry. I always tell them to destroy the CD. A scissors will do the trick.

    • Good point about the CD's. I feel like an idiot for not doing remembering from the beginning. I have a stack of blanks sitting next to my computer that I rarely use. I did call them, and they were very nice and apologetic,...and yes we were rejected. We expected that we were rejected, when we did not hear anything back. However, since the check for the booth fee is still sitting out there, we wanted to be sure.

      Thanks for the feedback

  • Myself, I would contact them right now, not giving it a thought.

However, I am currently waiting on two shows that I have been accepted to and need to get the rest of the info. Both shows are coming up in June-soon. Still haven't heard. For some strange reason things seem to be going slower on the show's end lately.

I have also been getting e-mails from shows that keep reminding me to apply- two weeks left.. one week left..today it was "only 4 days left!"

    Who knows?

  • Here's a tip. Never send a SASE for the return of a CD. Postage is 86 cents and probably another 50 cents for the envelope. CD's only cost 15 - 20 cents. But. The show should be responsible and destroy them using a paper shredder designed for CDs, not just throw them in the garbage.

Deadlines are another issue. Shows don't realize artists leverage submission and booth fee deadlines against reporting deadlines and if they are sometimes even a week late, it could cost a lot of artists another booth fee to a show that may be second or even third choice.

  • Hi John
This happens a lot for various reasons...shows get busier than expected, the jury process takes longer than planned etc. It is absolutely ok to contact the show and ask them when the results will be posted. I have done it a few times and have found show directors to be very gracious and apologetic when results are late. Elle
    • Thanks Elle,

So what would be an appropriate amount of time to wait?

      • If I haven't heard anything after a week, I e mail or call.
