A few of you may have run into us mainly at shows in Florida selling my mixed media jewelry under my business name, Palm Coast Art. I have been somewhat short-circuited by my soon-to-be ex-husband and his troll-like mistress, a purveyor of packaged food products, dips, etc. To make a painful and long story short, these two individuals ran off earlier this year with our motorhome, my entire inventory of jewelry (valued at over $10K), my complete set-up and displays and all of our marital funds. I am working with an attorney to take control of whatever may be left, if anything, of our nest egg. It seems my jewelry has finally run out and so I expect my husband will be helping out his honey while she continues to do shows in Florida, Michigan and wherever the wind and my money take them. So . . . I am looking toward starting over but I want to lose the Palm Coast Art name and it's theme. Where can I look at various booth set-ups for inspiration? Of course I want something unique but I can't seem to get started. Going to need a new name and logo and currently don't have one in mind other than something to do with "burned," which may not make for such a pretty booth.

  • Hi Kay,

So sorry for your troubles. We met Jim , in Florida, in January. We loved your jewelry and how creative it was. We thought your husband was a "nice" guy, but all can be fooled, (at least once) .Keep your head up!

Best to you, Suzanne and Damon , On The Spot Jewelry

  • Kay, if you do use a name not your own (such as "Serenity...") make sure to run a title search on the name you propose. (In FL, you need to do this as a condition of getting a state sales tax license).  This will save you lots of potential headaches down the line.

When I started my business in 2008, I searched on "Wild Images" (the name I'd intended to use) and found that it was registered.  There was no such problem with my second choice, "Wild Images Florida."

    Good luck!

    • Thank you!
  • Kay,

I use Cooltext.com for many headings, titles, etc. So, I wandered over and created a couple of examples for you. See Attached. Perhaps this will get the brain thinking about the next steps and put the other negative thoughts aside.

    Be Blessed,

    Lois

      • Thank you, Lois that is beautiful and certainly something to think about. I actually just bought a little battery operated fountain that says "serenity" on it!
        • Oh, my. Serendipity is at play ... a fountain that says "serenity" and the name that would hopefully give you calm and peace. Wow. Someone is at work here.

          • I was about to click "Like." Too much time on facebook!
  • Kay,

Forget HIM and HER ... you are YOU and you are being very strong. You were not "burned," you are not "destroyed," you are a strong, self-sufficient woman who knows who she is and is ready to move on.

Perhaps you could name your business what you are moving toward -- Serenity.

    What do 'ya think, Kay?

    Be Strong, Be Blessed,

    Lois

  • Hi, Kay -

I am saddened by the story of your ex, but am inspired by your determination to dust yourself off and carry on.  Whatever the name you choose for your new business, you might consider as a logo an image of a phoenix rising from ashes triumphantly.  It could be all at once beautiful, powerful, and symbolic.  Wishing you all the best as you move on to what promise to be better times ahead.
