Trade Shows

Up to now all my venues have been traditional arts and crafts fairs, farmers markets and the occasional church bazaar. I am tempted to try exhibiting at a home decor trade show. Has anyone experience with these?

  • It sounds like it might be worth looking into, especially with so many people "decorating" with photographs these days...why don't you give it a go and report back to us?

  • Are you thinking of one in particular?

  • You might also investigate Junior League sponsored shows.

I have experience doing all types of shows, but I've never been an exhibitor in a Home Decor trade show or a wholesale type event. I have several friends who do well at these type of events, one with pewter jewelry and the other with her artwork on t-shirts. I have attended West Coast Art & Frame Show.

You'll never know unless you try one. I am always on the lookout for opportunities to meet new customers, but our artwork isn't geared for swift production and we don't have a tightly focused product line.

  • At one time I sold giftware and worked at showrooms in the Chicago merchandise mart. You could research to which wholesale markets offer a temporary option (Beckmans in Chicago). Be prepared fees might be pricey along with multiple days and hotel/ parking as well.
