I would suggest you go with the Samsung Galaxy. If you decide to go to a different or second credit card reader, the Galaxy will more likely to be compatible.
I have the Samsung Galaxy II and have not had a problem with the Square, with the caveat, that it is dependent upon signal strength for data!! Our problems with the Square are not caused by the phone or by the Square app, we have issues due to sometimes doing shows where data connectivity is weak. Therefore, Square is our "back up" and what we use to process AMEX, most transactions we run through RoamPay which has a store and forward feature for those times when our data signal is weak.
