Greetings all ArtFairInsiders.com peeps!  I am working on designing a new logo for my business and although that is the fun part, the not so fun part is deciding on a tag line.  So, since I don't have any co-workers (although my husband does help, but it isn't enough when it comes to big decisions), I want to put this tag line out there and see what you all think.  If you can think of something better - spit it out, don't keep it to yourself.

My craft business is called By the Bay Botanicals for a few reasons.  I live and work near the Chesapeake Bay, hence the "by" portion of the business name.  I work with different types of dried flowers such as lavender and roses and use floral (and other) scents for the products I not only design, but make by hand and package (which includes labels and so on).  I make 4 different kinds of lavender herbal bath teas, incense sticks, room sprays, and for a year and a half I have a line of palm wax candles called Destination Scentsations.  The Botanical part of the name is the best way I can think of to summarize the end result of all the items I make and sell.  Lastly, I am "anal" when it comes to flow and love to use repeating letters in titles/names to make them memorable.  In other words the business name is not changing.  However, I have never really narrowed down a specific tag line - short and sweet.  Today, after about an hours worth of jotting down ideas I came up with "Making Scents the Natural Way".  What do you think?  Too Punny?  Just right?  It kind of has a ring to it and pretty much summarizes the business - I make scented items that are all natural and eco-friendly.  At the same time I am wondering if I am missing something.  This is where your help/input would be appreciated.

I have a logo for my line of candles which is an oval with a nice, centered compass star and the business name above and below the compass star.  The tag line for that is "It's a vacation in a jar" - yet the tag line is not apart of the logo. - Michelle

  • How's this???  By the Bay Botanicals - Your happy place awaits! ? Kinda going for the fact that when you smell any of items I make it "takes you to your happy place".  In other words the reason people buy what I offer is to escape to a stress free place and have some "me" time.  Not only that, scents trigger happy memories from your past and this is something I want to incorporate in the tagline too.  I have debated about using the word paradise - like "welcome to paradise" or "Paradise found".  But for some reason it just doesn't sound memorable.  So far I am "feeling" your happy place awaits however I need to get more input from you all.  I am having a hard time viewing this from a distance or from the viewpoint of a stranger never have heard of the business.  - Michelle

    • Hey, Michelle!  First, it was fun meeting you in person in Kutztown (where I did very well, thankfully).  To add my two "scents," I've run into a number of instances of a clear 'dumbing-down' mentality.  In years past I described many of my pieces as "hierloom" panels.  I have changed to "heritage", "tradition,"  or "family history" because I would often have to define "hierloom."  The point is that I'm not sure the play of scents/cents/sense, etc., will come through as intended.  I vote for the happy place.  We'd all like a happy place in a jar.

  • Hello Michelle, your natural products sound so nice.  I like what you have come up with.  If you are looking to shorten your tag down, how about:

    Nature's scents

    Scented naturally

Natural Botanicals  (although I almost think I have heard this somewhere else)

    Nature's Botanicals

    Scents a la Naturel

    Naturally scented

I do like those two that you have come up with.  Sometimes chopping it down too small isn't always the best thing to do.  People like catchy tags.  I think they feel like the products are more professional.

I don't know if that is of any help to you or not.  Hopefully, you will get a few more comments from some others.

  • Scent by nature. As opposed to Sent by nature.
  • I love the "vacation in a jar", Michelle, and your thinking on this. So you are looking for a tagline that covers all your goods? How about:

    Scents for You

    Where Art meets Nature

    Scents for the Sensible

    Nature Knows Best

Essential Scents for a beautiful life

and, of course, Scents for Cents (I know, I know -- pretty silly)

    I like Sheila's suggestion.

  • How about shortening the tag you have to something like "Making Scents---Naturally"? (Punctuate or not, I just threw something in.)
