Superstitions?

As I packed for the show this weekend, I began to consider my superstitions... if I:

  • Have Chobani yogurt in the fridge
  • Wear the earrings Maggie made
  • Carry with me the scarf I got from Bonnie
  • Use the pen Eric gave me

I will have a good show.

I know how dopey this is - but I do it anyways!

Do you have superstitions about success at art shows? 'Fess up!

  • My wife Jean has one. If the palms of her hands itch when we leave home for a show, it will be a money maker. It has worked so far.
    • With me if the right hand itches it is money coming.  If the left palm itches, it means money going.

  • If it's a nice sunny day and you leave your sidewalls off, and your rain gear at home, it will rain!  You could call it a superstition, or being prepared, but I always hang my sidewalls and brace my tent for wind - even on the prettiest of days.

    • I always try to be prepared for wind because my gourds are lite and will blow all over the place if I do not have sides on my tent.  Next problem is which direction to face the tent which is something not always within my control.

  • I have one too, if I listen to either The Doobie Brothers greatest hits or a classical radio station on the way to a show, it will be a good show. Crazy as it sounds, it works for me!!!!!! I am totally serious too, no joke!!
    • Hahaha! Love this! On the way to the show this weekend - and on the way home - I listened to a radio station that plays COMEDY all day - so I arrived having just laughed for a good hour. I think that might have been one of the secrets to the weekend's success!

  • I am Native and sell my artwork which is based on Native designs so I always have a wampum shell in my cash box. LOL  I also have friendly but sometimes playful spirits with me in my studio.
They are especially helpful when I am working, but sometimes I feel their presence and it makes me turn around to look to see if someone is there.  I use to have a child spirit who would hide things or move things, but she has not been around in a long time.

  • I don't have superstitions about shows, but I know there are spooks in my studio that hide tools, notes and patterns. One must be the spirit of my dad getting even for the "extra nuts and bolts" I would put in his pile of parts when taking something apart. The others are just ornery old spirits of saddlemakers messing around with my tools.
