It will be interesting to see if other phone manufacturers add applepay aps for download. Many people just don't use or want an apple telephone...even if they are overpriced.
There are already a number of phone manufacturers offering NFC apps for their hardware. This article, although mentioning several UK phones, shows how it is already in place for several other manufacturers.

"Apple Pay" is just one implementation of the "near field communication" method of payment that Square is supporting. I suspect Square's implementation will cover many of the current phones, including Android Pay and Apple Pay. Their page on the contactless reader says,

Apple Pay seems as if it's on its way to becoming the Kleenex of NFC terms...
They emailed me a couple of weeks ago with a link to pre-order at no charge. Not sure what the break point is for pay and reimburse, or free. Sales volume, perhaps.
If you want to see what credit card sales you will need to have to recoup the 49 bucks, divide 49 by .0275

Munch munch, gag, munch...
I thought Apple Pay was going to be another Google Wallet. So this is me eating crow.
The say the $49 charge will be refunded through reimbursed processing fees.
I have one of those on order from Square. I use square on both my ipad and Samsung telephone. They are supposed to ship sometime this fall
