I did a handful of shows in 2019 and have been contacting event organizers for late 2021 fairs. I’m close to committing to a few events but Covid is still a concern. My question to the artists who have been going out and doing events in 2021 is: are there any additional precautions you have been taking?

My partner and I are fully vaccinated, but we want to be as safe as reasonably possible for outdoor fairs.

For one of the events, the organizer is planning to space the 10x10 booths farther apart so I’ll be hanging artwork on the outside of the tent and less artwork on the inside walls.

Aside from having a gallon of hand sanitizer and wearing a face covering, have you purchased equipment for Covid or adjusted your displays to encourage social distancing?

I’m thinking about purchasing a portable amplifier since my face mask muffles my voice quite a bit.

  • I have done one show, this past spring.  Artists, vendors, etc and customers were asked to wear masks.  I think the promoters had hand sanitizer in various locations.

I am doing one show this coming October, same show as the spring.  Not sure what they will do.  However these promoters are proactive and will announce ahead of time.

We are doing less shows, not so much out of fear of covid but I have 2 permanent booths and have less of a need to travel.

    • Thanks for taking the time to reply Cindy. It sounds like your spring show went smoothly!

I usually do an art demonstration and quite a few people like to stand really, really close to see what I'm working on. I'll probably make a few signs for reminders to observe social distancing.

      • What kind of demos?

        • I work in pastel so I usually have a drawing in progress on a tabletop easel. In previous years I had an animal portrait 30% done that I could work on in-between talking to the public. I'm thinking of doing a larger demo (possibly 16x20 inches) so that people don't have to get close to see what I'm doing.
