Well, we drove just outside Memphis for a show this weekend and wouldn't you know there is one of those 100 year freak snow and rainstorms here now.
Roads, schools and alot of other places closed also.
This ain't right or normal for an old Louisiana guy and I think the weather gods have put a hex on us. In November we drove to Denver so we could participate in their 100 year storm of the century and experience the miserable cold and freezing weather.
This sucks more than my 5hp dust collection system in my shop...
I took some photos with my camera but I have no way of posting them until we return and I can put the carera card in the computer. My ipad computer that i type this with has no card reader slot...

Greg you may remember I am Louisiana too. I have not ventured out of state for a show, and not sure I would do one further north unless it was indoors. Even then, you take a chance on the weather ... this winter's conditions shut down so much so even an indoor event won't see much traffic I suppose.
Cindy...This is an indoor event, as was the Denver one. We don't even want to drive to the convention location because of the icy roads. The snow driving isn't so bad but the icy roads..well that another story.
Sooner or later you will need to drive out of state if you don't want to limit your show options...and Carol and i really enjoy the driving and travel...except in this sorta weather conditions.
I am glad you had an indoor event scheduled but probably not as much as you. Yes icy roads make for treacherous travel.
About going out of state. Right not we have limited travel time due to having a store front business that we own that is unrelated to my craft business. Dh is full time in the store. He does take off the weekends we have shows. We are not at a point we can take of 4+days per show just to go out of state. We are close enough to Mississippi that we could do a weekend show. Once dh begins to cut back for semi-retirement we could do shows further away.
We have applied to Red River Revel for the first 4 days, which is a show in Shreveport in early October. Jury decisions go out in April, I think. I am not expecting to get approved because it's such a big show and I am a first time applicant there. Whichever way it goes will be a learning experience, I am sure. If we get into it, we will have to leave Friday, Oct. 3, show starts on Oct. 4. We will have a booth through Oct. 7 and then come home on Oct. 8. We will get through packing up too late on the 7th to begin driving home. That is an in-state show and it will eat up almost a week. It's about a 5 hour trip from Houma to Shreveport, but at least we'd have 4 lane all the way.
Last year we did 12, split between the spring and the fall. This spring is a little slack compared to last spring (4 shows) but hoping we picked better shows. If we get in to Revel that will be a huge undertaking to have stock for 4 full days of business. I know of a couple of other shows I want to be in that I have done before, but in Louisiana. Will see how many more other than those after I find out about Revel.
