shop lifting

This is about shop lifting, but not by a customer, another artist! This happened a few years ago, won't name show or artist, but on Sunday morning before the show opened an artist saw that some of her work was missing, she told the show director and the police were called, when they arrived someone mentioned that she had seen another artist hanging around that booth pretty early Sunday am. The police search this woman's car and found the missing art, they cuffed her, put her in the patty wagon and that was that. We were all pretty shocked, an artist stealing from another artist is really beyhond the pale.......  This same woman at a show a few year earlier had me put some things that she wanted to purchase under a covered table in my booth late on Sat. said that she would have her husband come before the show started on Sunday and pay/pick up every thing. Well, Sunday he came and guess what , every thing was gone......... I never connected this until I saw her  being taken away in the patty wagon.... This is the only time that I have heard of this happening in the 20 years that I have been doing shows!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank goodness Linda I don't think there are very many artists out there that would steal from each other.  It is like real life - there are a few bad apples where ever we go.  We just have to try to steer clear of them best we can.

  • ok, my first gut reaction is that her name should not be protected, others must be in the same boat and should know what might have had happened to them.  Also show promoters should know if she was in a show where stealing had happened, that they do not allow this person back in again.

Sometimes I think we are too nice to the person guilty, and she/he should be labeled.  Oh my goodness, how many times have you asked an artist to watch your booth while you go to the (potty) there may be more than just items involved.    ok I'm off the soapbox, next

    • She is no longer doing shows. In fact, someone recently told that she had passed away. The show promoters were told. Anyone who saw that she was going to be in one of their shows did inform the show promoters, so it ended pretty quickly. The sad part is that we all work so hard in this business, granted that we love what we do, but still it takes a lot of time, expense and organization to make it work and that one of our own could do this was appalling.

      • Yes, there is a special place in hell for people like that.
    • I agree with Jacque!  I'd like to know who this is so I don't ask him/her to watch my booth.  Even if it's sent in a private email.
