Selling in Canada

Will be participating in a couple of events in Canada this year.

What kind of sales permit do I need and who do I contact?

Any extra regulations for hauling my art trailer other than proof of insurance?

Thanks to those contributing

  • I realize this is an old thread. Any update on selling in Canada from anyone more recently? I live in Seattle and hoping to try some shows in Vancouver area. Anyone have experience with how the border crossing is recently and also what paperwork do I need?

    Thanks,

    Satya

  • In addition, Linda, Eve Lerman, the US trade representative in Detroit is a great resource on this issue and her office is prepared to help. I do know many stories over the years of artists who have had to unload all their equipment from their vans at the border, have receipts for their camera equipment, etc., so be prepared!

What shows are you doing in Canada? I  know few artists who have exhibited there, mostly they've just been traveling through to Niagara/Buffalo.

  • Thanks Phil - didn't find that for some reason.

I can see I'll have to research a tad more & post the procedures for everyone.

    Have a terrific selling season!

  • Also - At the border do I pay an incoming tariff/duty as well as pay an outgoing tariff/duty?

Has no one crossed into Canada to participate in an art show?

    • There's a little area behind the Post Office in Edina, MN where they talk with a heavy Canadian accent every June, don't you know. I hear sales are really lousy there though, you betcha hey.
      • Always nice to hear from you Munks.  Thanks for the tip ;D
        • It'd be nice to see you back around here a bit more often instead of trekking around Canada.
      • See, Linda, we're all glad to see you here again!
