I’m looking for some form of thin self adhesive rubber sheet, that can be cut to size. I don’t know what search terms to look for.
I am making unglazed ceramic pedestals to showcase a collection of native American pottery. The pottery is unglazed; burnished and decorated with oxides, so I need to be careful that nothing abrades the oxide layer. Some kind of thin rubber would both cushion and have a slight grip to guard against vibration.
I’m doing the same thing for a fossil collection, but that doesn’t have the issues of abrasion. But big heavy pieces definitely need grip inside the stand.
Where the pottery piece nests into the base I’ve used felt, but on a really small piece nesting down far won’t work: I can have only a slight recess. I’m envisioning cutting a narrow strip of rubber and adhering it at the edges of the recess.
As they are porous, Museum Putty won’t work. The clear rubber dots you see on back of frames won’t adhere to the porous pedestals either; as well as looking tacky. I’m not neat enough to make a band of liquid silicone that is uniform.
I know there are sheets of self-adhesive flexible craft foam, but that has no gripping qualities. Thanks for your suggestions.

Silicone Mats work great and you can easily cut them
