Hello Everyone,
Wanted to say hello and thank you for letting us into Art Fair Insiders. My wife, Kelley, and I are full time potters living in Berea, Kentucky. Took last year off from doing shows to regroup. Not the best decision financially but from a healing stand point it was awesome. Also during our show sabbatical we built a 500 sq. ft. gallery beside our studio. Back doing 8 shows this year but looking to 5-8 more shows next year.
Have very much enjoyed reading through the vast amount of information that is on this site.
Enjoy your day!

Hi Bruce! Taking a year off is a great idea to accomplish something like building a gallery and also to regroup. Did you have other income during this year? What planning and action was involved in getting by without income from shows? Thanks for sharing! I haven't been to Berea, but it is on my bucket list.
Regrouping was just what the doctor ordered. We had some money saved to help us get through the year not doing shows. It was a long lean winter though! Berea is a nice town with lots of talented artists! Make sure you stop in sometime to check it out.
Welcome, Bruce. That was brave of you to take a year off, but I've learned that if you really cut down on the overhead, you can get by with less income. It is a balance, isn't it? Berea is a wonderful town and the heart of "craft country" in Kentucky. It seems like one of those place where having a gallery makes a lot of sense. Do you have income from the tourism that comes through Berea?
Taking the year off was really a necessity as any form of balance in our life was non existent. Feeling like we have some balance back in our lives now! We live 10 miles east of Berea and are getting a fair amount of traffic out here to the "sticks". It helps that there is another pottery 2 miles away and a very well know B n B who sends a lot of people our way.
