The groups are a way for people with similar interests (that may not be of interest to the rest of the members) to share information. Some good discussions ensue there.

But I don't have to do anything special to post in the group discussions? I kept getting a window saying I had to join the group in order to post, but I couldn't figure out how to do that. I think it's time to call my fourteen-year-old niece.
Steph, Connie: I believe that I see the same pop-up window when I come to the AIF website via an external link (such as a link from an email). <tech talk>The browser doesn't recognize that the visitor is already a member because a cookie isn't getting set on the user's computer.</end tech talk>.
The "group" being referred to in the pop-up window isn't a group within the Discussion page. It's the Art Fair Insiders Group itself. And you're already a member. All you need to do is sign in to the site using your usual user name and password.
Connie: Check with the webmaster and see what can be done about these. (I think the browser just needs to set a persistent cookie.) At the very least, I'd suggest amending the wording in the box so that it also says: "If you already belong to Art Fair Insiders , just log in with your username and password."
When I went to the glass group and tried to post a reply, I got a box that said I had to join the group before I could post. Not sure what to do about that.

I've never looked at it. But it seems to be a way to water down the web site and put information where people can't find it.

Hope this helps,

I don't understand your question. You just posted. What exactly are you asking about?
