I just received an email for an art fair in Antwerp, of all places. Don't ask me how I got on their email list, i'm afraid to find out. This is the Art Antwerp 2014. I guess they're desperate to fill their spaces, just like some of the American shows.
I thought I had seen seen some high priced shows but this one is over the top, down the road, and off into the sunset for being the most expensive show I've seen. They charge by the square meter, as it's in an exhibition hall, but for the metric challenged, a 9 square meter space is about the same as a 10x10. The standard prices is 280 euros/sq.m and this is the reach in your wallet stinger, if I read this sucker correctly; there's a 1,500 Euro administrative fee on top of this. Okay, 280x9=2,520 Euros plus 1500 more for whatever else they claim to do for a total of 4,020 Euros. The current exchange rate is 1E/$1.29, so this show fee is about $5,186 which does include admission tickets. Woo-hoo, what a bargain ;-)
Let's hope this idea of administration fees don't catch on. Now obviously this show must be for the high rollers, way past those of us making works for under $500. It would be interesting to walk a show like that. So would reading a show report from one like that ;-)

You've apparently not investigated similar type shows in USA such as ArtExpo New York and Houston Fine Art Fair. The latter has a basic rate of $8,600 per space and $800 mandatory advertising fee. The space is 12x16, so that should make everyone feel a little better about it.
ArtExpo on the other hand cuts everyone a deal. For those who want a 4x10 space, the smallest offered, $3,550 is the going rate. A 10x10 costs $6,175.
Knowing all this might make Antwerp seem like a better deal. You'd certainly get to see some new country! WOOHOO!
Nope, haven't investigated those shows. I have seen some talk of the New York show and knew it was way up there. I look at those shows like a Lamborghini; nice to look at but I'm not going to drive one ;-)
Have you Googled the show to see if it's real?
This is what I get when I go there.
I use Norton 360. Didn't get a suspicious flag.
