Galleries that want money (a huge sum) to show your work, galleries that expect you to ship artwork to them at your expense, and of course they expect a commission if the artwork sells. Did you receive emails from galleries as Agora or Ico? Beware! Reputable galleries do not charge the artist for a show. I have offers from "predators" in my mail box often and I immediately delete any such form letter invitations. My friend posted about it at her website: http://www.andreeva.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=94:spam&catid=46:-traps&Itemid=41 and she got a threating letter. Another artist posted about it and got a threating letter also: http://joannemattera.blogspot.com/2009/05/marketing-mondays-vanity-gallery.html

  • I guess it goes to show if it is too good to be true - then it probably is. However in this case - why not put on your own exhibition??? I would be asking more questions such as what their business model is, getting a list of references, checking the better business bureau - if possible, and so on.
