Powerless and Addicted

I am sitting in a McDonalds after a kind young man helped me access the wifi on my Mac.  We were hit with one of those high wind storms yesterday and have been without power since 8am.

I had no idea how addicted  I was, not only to the internet but this website.  How could I not be able to read all the reviews of one of the biggest weekends of festivals during the summer!!

The food in the refrigerator/freezer is pretty much ruined, the neighbors are getting together tonite to barbecue all the thawed frozen stuff and two of my favorite tv shows that premiered last nite will have the opening episodes rerunning, hopefully still by the time the power is back.

Semi-funny story--husband is supposed to go up north to the family cottage with his brother yesterday.  Before the storm, I suggest he move his suv into the neighbor's garage so it won't be damaged by hail and high winds predicted.  Well, when we lost power, we lost the ability to get back into neighbor's garage until neighbor came home with a house key.  Those wonderful keypads on your garage are useless with no power.

Told him to take my car, no problem--his suitcase and fishing gear were already in his car so he couldn't.  He was out the door 10 minutes after the neighbor got home.

Wonderful reviews this weekend.  Still  waiting to hear about Madison and Michigan Avenue.

And still waiting for the power to be restored at our house.

  • Addicted is a good word. To this site and anything online in general.  Too much to check and update, that it does take away from creating at times.  That's the problem with having my "studio" in the family room.

  • Hi Everyone,

For the 4 weeks (?) or so, we have been non-stop on the road; one show (in Massachusetts), one work related trip (in New Hampshire), and, then to my mother's in Minnesota-lots of driving miles. But, the absolute worst-no internet!! I am going crazy nuts trying to catch up on all of the posts and emails that I have missed. Didn't realize how much I have enjoyed and relied on this forum to get me centered. Thank goodness I'm back on the computer and with all of you!

    • Good to have you back, Ann Marie.

I have a new laptop (long story on that one) and last week was doing a "migration" from my desktop to the new computer, sending the info to the old one to the new one so I would be able to work while I was traveling. The migration started around 6 pm and went on until the morning -- hardly knew what to do with myself that whole evening and was amazed to discover how much time I had to do other things as a result.

  • Geri, you are in good company.  I, too, am addicted to the computer and the internet.  I can't imagine not checking in on the world every day.

  • Sounds like a good time, Geri. I was writing a newsletter yesterday when the storms hit here and the tornado warning sirens went off. And then an hour later also. Exciting, but I'm so glad it didn't hit any art fairs!

It is a little quiet on the show reviews so far this week. I am thinking people are exhausted from the back to back shows and travel and last weekend's heat. I'm waiting to hear also. Guess I could make a show report myself...
