My foray into framed work is going well. Many positive remarks from the browsers. Fewer sales, of course. But enough encouraging remarks to continue. Now I'm wondering about how to photograph it for jury. Do you include the whole package, frame, mat and all or just the piece itself? They do look so much better when they're all gussied up, but I'm thinking that when I see jury photos, I don't see frames.

  • Only the artwork. If you include the mats and frames, it makes your art smaller than your competitor's jury images.

But you also need to light the work so that the dimension is visible to the jurors within under ten seconds for the entire set of images.

    • Thanks, Larry. I may send them to you or maybe take another road trip :)
  • No frames unless it is integral to the piece. Normally, paintings, photographs, prints -- all are shown to the jury image only. But if you paint your frames, for examples, and it's part of the package, then you'd show the frame and the piece. Why don't you post an example?
    • Thanks Jim , I will. I don't paint the frames or anything like that. Yet. And the frames aren't integral except for making them look nicer.
