So I've been rapidly getting ready for Art & Air this weekend. I've spent the last two weeks in bed with an infection in my left foot and finally got clearance from the doctor to get back to work. I'm disappointed  that my new pieces won't be finished, but next month they'll be ready for the shows in Breckenridge and Aspen.

Last night our dog sitter cancelled so we'll be taking our two small dogs. Not thrilled with that idea. And just now our mechanic called to say that when he flushed our transmission fluid the transmission stopped working. So now waiting to see if the van will make it to  St. Louis. And I'm trying to decide if I should rent a van or just stay home.I really want to go.The van was just fine before they tuned it up.

  • oops, another dog surgery.. Saunders as it turned out, our cockapoo; swallowed an acorn. It did not come out, and they had to go in.. for $2000.. yikes! Thanks to iMom.com for help on that... just what I needed after brakes on the SUV ($500), repairs on the van that hauls the work to shows ($850), but they did not fix the AC.. So I'm headed to Chicago Old Town and Milwaukee Lakefront next week without any AC.. Is it hot out there??

I do keep up my son's tae quan do, he's 8... he is a green belt going for purple, something like that..
  • Thank you Munks for that useful info. I'll be talking with the family this weekend since I'm now staying home from Art & Air and looking for a new minivan. An Art auction would be great to include in the drive. I have a Jazz club willing to host the benefit and as plans proceed I'll post for those interested in contributing or helping out. The young man's name is Rudy.He was beaten so badly that his eye socket and check bones are gone. There is a lot of facial nerve damage as well and they are not yet sure of his eye damage because the swelling is so bad.
I believe Rudy does have a black belt, but he was jumped from behind and didn't see it coming. But that's a great idea about self defense.

Have a bank set up a trust fund specifically for the kid's medical bills. They do all the paperwork and add a bit of security and stability for the recipient, the donors, and the tax people. Even though few entities are more criminal than banks nowadays - it is the best way to go.

Some money needs to be set aside for taekwondo training - seriously - this stuff won't end for him and his self image will suffer unless he is prepared for the next incident - which will happen someday.

I am sure there is a dojang in your area that will jump on training him for less then full price just for the publicity. When he's working toward a black belt, gay or not, no one will assault him - because he will no longer be a target, not because he can fight, but because he will not walk around with the aura of a victim hanging around him.

If the fundraiser is an art auction, let me know and I will send a painting. If it is not an art auction, please send me a note about what is being done so I can send something.

If Holly sends something to auction, let me know and I will send more than she does.

No good deed goes unpunished. I'll have to check out this non profit thing. One of my daughters friends was a victim of a hate crime. He's the sweetest kid in the world and was beaten to a pulp for being gay. We're going to organize a fund raiser for his medical bills because he has no insurance and he'll be needing reconstructive surgery on his face. After reading your post I see that fund raising will be complicated.

My bank changed hands. New bank would not cash a $50 check that my sister sends me monthly for a small loan I made her. Then I pay many bills online and during the transition the new bank "lost" those payments so they weren't paid. The following month I had many bills with payment fees for non-payment. I changed banks. Of course, the new months payments got lost also and more during this and new places are dunning me for payment threatening shut off of utilities, cell phone, delinquent taxes! My husband's credit card was cancelled temporarily as it got caught up in some fraud thing. A few days later mine was cancelled (again - because the company suspended it the month before for the non-payment thingy) for the same fraud. After all the nice payments in the last week because of the pledge drive PayPal decided I was a non-profit (imagine!) and started investigating all those $12 payments and the irregularity of that account so they started investigating my supposedly illegal activity. So my checking account, charge accounts and PayPal (my backup banking sort of) are all in the throes of something...I'm seeing red flags all over my credit history. Thank goodness I'm not trying to buy a house, or a Craft Hut!
  • sitting at my computer, laughing out loud!!

Both my sons have black belts in tae kwan do -- absolutely look into that. It is a marvelous program.

Maybe we can take on this fundraising here together -- see if we can help your daughter's friend.

  • Ah, misery loves company. Hopefully things will turn around for us.
  • There must be something in the water. No matter what I do I can't seem to accomplish anything either. I have 5 cats with medical problems, 1 is seriously ill with a kidney infection and 2 are dying of cancer. I can't drive my Jeep over 50 MPH due to a front end problem that I can't afford to even get looked at until Friday. And there's a construction crew next to my house that's on a short deadline, meaning their work hours are roughly 6:30 am until 8 pm. I'm exhausted, broke, mostly house-bound, and awash in deisel fumes. My next show isn't until next month, but seeing as how I'm a photographer that specializes in western landscapes producing new work is on hold until I can get the Jeep fixed.

I feel your pain. I just keep trying to do 1 thing every day and call it good enough. It's about all I can handle.
