i know this is like comparing apples and oranges but wanted to know if anyone has done any of these shows. I read the thread on Gold coast moving to a new location and to a new date which makes me concerned about doing the show. I am a jeweler with funky work. I do live near chicago so parking and hotel are not an issue as with Oconomowac. Any suggestions? Lisa

  • Best of luck with Gold Coast -- this will be an interesting year for sure. Let us know in August how it went. But, I think you should definitely not rule out Oconomowoc for another time. I've heard really nice things about it. But it is a totally different experience. Chicago is usually a good marketplace too. So many fairs, so little time!
  • Thanks Connie! I think I'm going to do Gold Coast because there is no hotel involved and maybe Chicago will be a less conservative market compared to Oconomowac. I'm just nervous about the new location and date for Gold Coast. Lisa

The fact that lodging and parking are not a problem makes this a more even toss up to me, Lisa. Generally I would have voted for the Oconomowoc show -- much lower expenses, a nice crowd and a very decent show. BUT -- if you have those biggies covered for the lodging and parking (pretty hefty fees in Chicago as opposed to Wisconsin) then I'm sure you would see more people in Chicago - and certainly the kind of people who can appreciate funky work, tough decision!

The other plus for O is that it would be easier to do, more pleasant surroundings, shorter hours -- oh, is that my age showing? LOL
