Not an all out rejection ...

Hi Everyone,

As some of you might remember I applied to Red River Revel a couple of months ago.  I have never applied before ... it's a huge show compared to what I've done before, further than we have gone for a show and longer than any show we've done.

Last night when we got home from Melrose I had a thin envelope from RRR.  I was prepared for it to start out, "We regret to inform you blah blah blah."  However, I was notified I am waitlisted.  The first round has till mid June to cancel.  So I have a couple more months to wait it out.  I am very pleased to get waitlisted because I figured I did not have a shot at this show.  Any advice on how to make the next two months go by quickly while I wait once again?

Also if you have exhibited at this show I'd love to hear your advice.

    I did RRR once, about 2-3 years ago. my medium is contemporary silver jewelry. I did first half. I loved not having to set up my own tent And everybody has a corner. I saw some great crafts and arts and no buy sell. Set up was fairly easy and I stayed in a hotel within walking distance. The artists are treated very well. Unfortunately it rained some of the time. I dont know if that was the reason for very little trafic or if it is like that all the time. They have a lot going on, people don't necessarily come for the art. The little bit I did sell were a few of my lowest priced items $ 25-40. My neighbors, (photograhy, ceramics, fiber) said the same. I know some artists who do this show every year and it's a good one for them, I didn't think it was my"crowd" even with a lot of trafic and beautiful weather. I learned though over the years, that you have to try out shows for yourself, best if you can walk the show one year to get the picture. If that is not an option, just do it! Unless you get a lot of comments against it.

      Thanks for the first hand information.  It will certainly come in helpful if I get moved up off the wait list.  What hotel did you stay at?

      The price range you wrote about that sold well is well within what I do.  I do crafts that sell in that range.

        I'm sorry, I don't recall the hotel.there are several hotels in walking distance, I believe I got the name and special rate from the acceptance package. But just Google hotels with RRR adresse. I called the hotel and asked how far the show is from them, and the one who told me they are walking distance were my pick.

    In a couple of days, Cindy, I'd call them or send an email and let them know you are interested and hope you'll be called. That may/may not bump you up the list. Can't hurt. Otherwise, keep making excellent work and create goods that are very awesome for the next big chance.
