Hi all. I'm wondering how many of you will be in Old Orchard and open on Friday, for the sneak preview day. The weather is worrying me and I am considering being open Sat. and Sun. only. What are the rest of you doing? After two days in Buffalo Grove, the weather is proving to be a challenge.

  • I am in booth 47, and yes, temperature won't change too much! Be ready, bring your water and Gatorade, I saw you did Buffalo Grove, my Sunday was horrible, too hot to be out there!!! I had a migrane the whole time because the heat and I sold 40.00 maybe because my body was there but not my mind and heart!
    • I forgot my Gatorade last weekend and paid for it during breakdown. I'll try to make it to your side over the weekend. Stay cool.

      • It's surprising what a difference it makes. I have less pain afterward if I drink it, and continue for a while even after I'm back. I buy the powder (harder to find) and make it up stronger than what is sold pre-bottled. Like 1 1/2 to 2 times. Much lighter to carry with on a trip, too: I mix it up before leaving for the show each day.
        • MMM ... we've never done gatorade -- that might be our new learning - where do you find the powder form?
          • It comes in canisters like lemonade. It's not easy to find (At least not in my area): I buy it whenever I see it. YOu are more likely to find at at the beginning of summer.

YOu can buy small canisters at Walmart. They are usually put up high, top shelf, in area wherever the lemonade mix is. The big canisters I buy at Sam's Club: again I can only find them in early summer. I've occasionally found them at stores when I'm on the road. I then reuse the small canister to carry some with me to a hotel, just mixing it up fresh each day.

I have leg pain from standing too much, plus humidity aggravates it. A tough teardown will also make me sore. Drinking the Gatorade does make a difference. More noticeable when it is hot. I continue it  for an hour or two afterward. It’s sweet, which I don’t like, but I drink it for the effect, not for the taste.

You can get better hydration powders (less sugar) at camping stores, but that is more trouble than I want, to hunt them out. I used them for western canyon hiking years back. If I still did serious hiking I would go for them. The Gatorade is good enough for art fair use.

  • I was going to open on Friday, mmm, what do you think about the weather?

    • I just returned from Costco and the car thermometer read 100. It feels even worse. I don't think it's going to be any better, but we can hope. Where will you be located? I'm in booth 104. I'm on AFI several times a day, when possible, and I thought it was time to meet some foks. Anybody else going to be at Old Orchard?
