Hello All. Recently joined this fine organization and look forward to seeing and meeting people from all parts of this great country.
On June 2, 2012 I did my first type of art show at a farmers market. It was most interesting and
not many people showed up. Reason I choose this venue for now. Bought a used canopy for $20. oo
a roll of duck tape, blue, to match the canopy. A used 48"x 29" folding table with plastic top.
My neighbor who is a contractor made me two red cedar boxes for my unframed prints. I am not going into this full bore at this time. Found a old plastic roll up/down 8 foot blind, looks like faux
bamboo which I hang my unframed prints, mounted on half inch board. I put hooks on the blind and hang the mounted large prints up to 30"x40". Just have four at present that I am using. Good comments on my work but no sales.
Did the Thursday farmers market June 7. What a torrential down pour we had on and off over 7 hours. One 30x40 print blew off from the storm and landed in a mud puddle, face down. Kinda puts a damper on things. Only second time out. Not many people showed up due to the rains which we need very, very badly here in north FL. All went as I left for home soaked and now two shows under my belt. LOL. Hopefully this Thursday will be better. Just getting used to how these shows work and what specific items I will need to look better for the up coming fall shows in my area.
Sorry to bore you all, as I know all of you have been through this or something similiar. My expertise is photography. Many with digital technology and many more still waiting to get scanned to my computer from my 4x5 viewcamera. Probably a few thousand negatives and color transpariencies acquired in the past 37 years. Will keep you updated if interested.
Thanks for reading.

Did the farmers market again last Thursday. Only stayed a few hours. Torrential rains again, well this is FL in the summertime. We need the rain. Did sell a photograph before the rains came. That made the day.
Question: Is there a specific type, size and color of canopy that will work in most art festivals? Before I invest in a good system, would like other opinons. I bought that first up for 20.00 and 20.00 worth of duck tape and canvas seam glue. Hope it holds this week if the rains come.
David, I can see your adventures have already begun. It seems to me that the people who come new to this business who have many years of experience in their media often have growing pains with "equipment" and the business part until they've been through lots of experimenting, but if, like you, they have a wealth of knowledge of their media and sincere love of it that they can fit in quickly. Best wishes to you and welcome to AFI.
Thanks Connie for the good advice. Hope to get through tomorrow without a torrential rain storm like last week. Best way to learn about setting up a canopy and places to display ones media work is just do it. I will be asking questions probably next week.
Connie thanks for AFI window sticker, will have it on the truck tomorrow. Thanks again.
Hi David and welcome to AFI :) Lots of old hands at the show business here that are a wonderful resouce in themselves. Be sure to look through the archives by using the "Search" button available on most menu bars if you're looking for specific info. Enjoy!
Welcome to the site David. Lots of good information here and a very helpful group.
