I've been doing smaller more craft oriented shows for about a year, but this spring I'm moving into larger art shows.  I work in clay with recycled glass. A lot of my recent pieces are large wall tile installations mounted in large frames or on wood 24" by 24" average (up to 24x48).  They are big and heavy.   I didn't have any trouble with the smaller pieces at craft shows when I sold a piece wrapping it in tissue paper or bubble wrap and putting it in a large shopping bag.  Now that my pieces are getting bigger I'm not sure what I will do when some of these larger pieces sell.  I've transported them by wrapping them in layers of fleece fabric (because I have a lot of fabric from my sewing days) but that doesn't seem appropriate for when I sell them to customers.  Do I need to buy or make something custom for these big pieces?

How do people with large paintings wrap/protect them when they sell it to people?

  • Consider offering to deliver and maybe hang those large pieces. Sometimes that can make the difference in selling or not selling.

  • I wonder if you might think of traveling with a roll of the large bubble wrap, and a roll of packing tape.... carefully wrap the piece in the bubble wrap, and seal the folds with the packing tape.  If needed, create a handle of the packing tape by wrapping the piece once, and then rolling the tape onto itself for the handle. Another option might be traveling with large pieces of cardboard used in place of the bubble wrap.

That is just a guess, as I do not sell paintings.
