Hello All,
I'm Laura and I'm so glad to have stumbled upon this site! Thank you to the veterans who have offered up such a "digestable menu of advice". While I'm not new to the passion of art, I am new to vending. My first show, a local event called "Pumpkinfest" is in October and I have been on a steady "diet" of discussions offered here.
A little about me: I just obtained my degree in Graphic Design (Please don't hold it against me, traditional artisans!) and am ready to embark in a new chapter in my life. I'm learning about tax ids, equipment, and seemingly simple-but-in-reality-not lessons in pricing, packing up, etc.
I have a passion for design, but believe computers are a tool and I need more than one on my belt. I'd go crazy if I couldn't step away from the screen. I love the tangible production process that results from a project's initiation, such as the photography, and selecting bindings, etc. I love when hand-made elements can be incororated, such as constructing type from grass, paper, etc.
Some of the shows I do will be graphic design based, such as t-shirts, buttons, etc made through screenprints and my button machines with original illustrations. Other shows will be craft based, like "Pumpkinfest" where I will show wreaths, floral arrangments, etc. Since I have no experience, I have to strike my own balance between hand-made flowers, wreaths, etc, and store bought supplies that I paint, reconstruct, etc. After October, I'll have some of the equation figured out!
Thanks,
Laura L.
