Newbie in SC

Just thought I would stick my head in say "hello".  I am a woodturner in South Carolina and looking for the inside scoop on art fairs and festivals where I can sell my wares, make a little money on the side, and see other parts of the state and country  I am in numerous galleries around the state but it just doesn't bring in enough $ to allow me to quit my regular job...yet.

  • Jay, Nice turnings! After being in numerous galleries over the years, I have found that it brings in a little cash flow.  But no one can sell my art like I can.  I know the story and many art patrons love to hear it.  Art shows are a lot of work and it takes dedication and it's not an easy life.  Start slow and don't quit your day job just yet. It's great when it works.  Good luck!

    • Thanks Pat.  I've been doing some small shows (3-4) in and around the Columbia and Aiken areas  for about the last 4-5 years and you are right, they are a lot of work.  The galleries are my mainstay most of the year and they bring in enough to get me through until about Christmas and then I get active again at that time to take advantage of Christmas season.  You're right about not quiting my day job....I'd surely starve to death...lol.

  • Hi Jay and welcome to AFI :)  This is a great place for those inside scoops you mentioned and finding out the nitty gritty of shows inside out!   Lovely work :)

    • Thanks Annette...Beautiful Jewelry too.
