Hi everyone,
My name is Jose Dias and I am new to the site and forum. I have just been welcomed by Connie and she suggested I leave a message here to introduce myself.
I am not an artist. I joined the community because I manage my wife's art studio, Marcella Dias Studio in Phoenix, AZ. And as her manager I try to get involved and learn as much as possible about the art business.
My wife has been painting in watercolor and acrylic since she was a teenager, but never professionally. For her, painting is a way to relieve stress, connect with God, and inspire others. Until now most of her pieces are hanging at our home, were left behind at her parent's home, given to family members or were lost over time.
Recently she decided to become a professional painter and I signed up to manage her business and studio. The idea is that I take care of all the administrative and mundane stuff while she does the exciting stuff.
Just yesterday I moved most of the stuff out of our garage so she could use the space as her dedicated art studio. I guess she realized that painting at the kitchen table with a six-year old and a 3-year old around is not very conducive to creating good art... :O)
At the moment she is working on increasing our inventory of paintings while I am researching art fairs and expositions.
By the way, I am not sure if artists use the term "inventory of pieces" when their refer to their collection. However I am not an artist and I am not familiar with the proper terminology. I am a Realtor and I do use "inventory" to refer to all the houses I have for sale. Please feel free to correct me if I am using the wrong terminology.
Well, I guess it is it for now. I am looking forward to interacting with the folks here.
Have a great week.
God bless!

Karole,
Thank you so much for the nice words. I am learning something new every day. The art business is a fascinating world. I am looking forward to getting more involved. Thanks.
Thank you Annette.
I did spend sometime reading some of the discussions. The one about selling print vs original was very intriguing. My business mind started dreaming about an easy way to make a lot of money... My wife's artist mind was not so thrilled...
Anyway, the community seems to be very upbeat and welcoming. I am looking forward to interacting with everybody.
Jose - welcome, inventory is a good word but we call our work, "work" or "stuff". The fine art is usually "work" as in "I love your work" and we craft artists it's "I love your stuff". Inventory is way to IRS for us.

Martha, thank you for the comment.
I don't think we can call what my wife does "work". Work is supposed to be boring. And my wife has way too much fun when she is painting. Doesn't look like she is working... :O) (I hope she doesn't read this comment here... :O)
