New to Art Fair Insiders

Good afternoon all....I am so happy to be here!! Thank you for allowing me to be part of this site.

I live in Northern Florida and am trying to start doing some Craft Fairs. Don't have a clue of the best way to go. Was gonna start doing some Flea Markets but have been told by other crafters that, that is not such a good idea as most Flea Market shoppers are looking for bargains.....I want to find some non-jury stuff to start just to kinda get my feet wet.

Sooooo. anyone have any ideas, suggestions I would appreciate it.

Would love to share some of my projects and get some from others.

Feel free to take whatever I post (pictures) and put your twist on them!!!

Thanks again

Have a great rest of the week!

Dot

  • Hi Dot! I looked at your photos and definitely think you are correct to start with craft fairs.  Sometimes churches, schools or other community groups hold craft fairs and the booth fees are very reasonable.  Talk to other crafters in your area.  Check with the local craft stores, or malls as they sometimes post flyers.  Check your local newspaper for ads.  Frequently these are inside venues held in the spring and fall.  This would be a way of getting your feet wet without much of an investment.  You can always expand from there.  Good luck!

  • Welcome to the forum!

  • Glad to have you join us, Dot. My best advice to you is to try to shoot for the juried events, upgrade your work, your booth, your ideas because the small craft shows (nice as they can be) are full of people who are happy for a small stream of income and your friends are correct, the shoppers are there to spend as little as possible and the price points are lower. This is not to be snooty, but in general the finer the show the better the sales because the customers expect better work. I heard a shopper at a relatively nice show walking down the aisle to say to a friend, "you know there are no bargains here." Right you are.

But to get your feet wet and figure out how things work you might try a farmers market, my favorite art fair "incubator."

  • Hello Dot,

Welcome to our group.  We do have a forum just for crafters:

    http://www.artfairinsiders.com/forum/categories/crafts-and-craft-fa...

Make sure you check it out.  Leave some posts in there and hopefully the crafters will help you with your craft questions.

    Glad you joined us.

  • Hi Dot and welcome aboard :)  What do you create?

    • We work mostly in wood. My husband cuts out all of my patterns and I do the painting. I posted a couple of thing on the site...please check them out. Opinions are always welcome!! Glad to be here on this board!!

      Thanks

      Dot
