Hi, I'm Lorelei and don't do many shows, but am finding useful information on your site already. I photograph wildlife and nature and don't travel far from home, so don't get enough photos or to enough shows. Shows in this area are not often and are quite small, more of a community event usually--and people don't spend much money, they are more likely looking for entertainment, something to do. My website is at www.wildcatphotography.com.

Even if you don't do shows, Lorelei, we're glad to have you join us. Who knows? We may inspire you to think bigger about sharing your photos on a larger stage. If at all interested in that I'd suggest that you visit as many local shows/farmers markets as you can. Maybe you'll find the angle that works for you.
Welcome.
Well, I will do the things close to home, as I have in the past and add some to them perhaps. Fifteen miles away, there is a farmer's market kind of thing, but they are only open one day a week for four hours. So, by the time I got set up, it would be time to take it down. I just recently retired from the day job, so perhaps I can find more places to go now that there is a little more time. I'll be looking for places to go where they at least do the whole weekend.
Hello Lorelei, welcome! Your photographs are quite lovely and would sell well anywhere, I would think. Where exactly are you located? Perhaps you need to look at some shows that are not too far away but might be more lucrative than staying close to home. We're happy to see you here and hope you enjoy the site and all of the wonderful artists and craftspeople that are represented here...thanks and good luck!
Thanks everyone. I am in the western part of Oregon. In these parts, there aren't really many "art shows." There will be an artsy-craftsy thing in more rural areas, where people are not that much into photos for their walls. And the older people have enough stuff on their walls. So, yes, I could do some more of the arts-crafts shows, but it seems like most people who turn out for those are just looking for something to do for the day. And I find that men like my photos mostly, and the women spend the money. And if a guy is interested in something, his wife drags him off to look at something else. And that's the way it has gone here. The local art guild has tried to help me by getting my prints into various businesses, and they all ooooooh and aaaaaah, but they don't buy. I am 35 miles from the coast, and their groups are not interested in anything but ocean and bridge photos and since I also do not live right on the coast, I don't count. It's interesting.
I was in Portland last weekend attending Art in the Pearl. A really nice show and there was some wonderful photography, but I think room for yours.
Another trick I learned about selling, so for example, the men like your work, so chat up the wives while the men admire -- make friends with the person who has a little power over the buying decision.
Well, don't give up just yet...maybe you just haven't found the right fit, keep looking around and continue reading the reviews on this site, something will turn up, I'm sure.
I won't give up. I do sell a few photo cards at the old, local store, but I think my larger, framed prints won't go anywhere there. Many people would take them if I gave them away... I need to buy a new tent and try some of the other festivals around. I need to peruse the site and see what kind of tent is the easiest to set up for one person that doesn't cost a fortune. At least here, no one really cares if you have covers for your Graphic Display Systems walls or not.
Great! I like your attitude and I know that you'll succeed...best wishes.
Welcome Lorelei. We are glad to have you join us here. I looked at some of your photos and they are awesome. I would think you would do well if you could get yourself into some art shows. Are you thinking of going to the next level with your work?
Welcome to AFI, Lorelei. I am a picture frame designer, maker, carver, and gilder and do them for my wife's paintings. We live at Wyoming and mostly do shows in southeast USA. We haven't been to Oregon or the north west in quite a long time.
Looks like you have quite a large portfolio of work, some images which are really nice and special. I loved the one of the raccoon sitting on the felled tree. And then there was a raven (or crow) on a post. Those birds are always SO BLACK that getting good representations of them can be difficult. And there are some more really good ones, of course. We love coyotes!
Anyway, I look forward to seeing more from you here in the forums. You can see our website HERE WOOHOO!
