Hello,
I am a new member. My name is Cindy Capehart and I live in Gainesville, FL. I grew up here and then went to art school in NYC. I graduated from Pratt Institute in 1989, but didn't know what to do with my life and ended up going back to school and becoming a nurse. I did that for a few years then became a stay at home mom. I have two kids 9 and 12. In Feb of 2010 I started doing art again. I had not painted in 18 years and had to relearn. I jumped in and did my first art festival in Feb 2011. I have done two small local festivals two years in a row and this past weekend did my first big show. It went relly well, and I am ready to do more. Not sure I can go very far from home though.
I have been an artist in residence at a local art center since it opened a year ago. I am glad to have a site like this to get support and even give it when I can. Thanks and great to be here.

You are so welcome here, Cindy. Your road back to art resembles that of so many of the other members. So many were not encouraged to follow their art, but to build a life around something more practical. And for some people that does work out, but isn't it wonderful to be able to explore art again?
I look forward to your participation here. There is lots to learn about this complex business and from your life experience I can tell you have a lot to share with us.
The kids grow up so fast, don't go too far away. We're all living a long time these days so cherish these years.
Hi Cindy and welcome to AFI :) There are a few of us that for various reasons don't go very far from home. Like you I have preteens & a teen so choose not to go far. It can work, just have to think creatively about venues and selling options!
