With the rising price of gas I thought this might be of interest. I wasn't sure what section to post this in so here it is...
A couple of days ago I went to my local Mazda dealership to get a part for my Mazda 3. While I was there I had the opportunity to test drive the new 2013 CX-5. I was overall impressed. The mileage specs for the car are 26 city/35 Hwy with manual. It goes down some with AWD and automatic but still is over 30 hwy. This is without the expense of a hybrid. It handles amazingly well with virtually no roll. Seriously, it felt like driving my mazda 3... almost... Ok, it's no speed demon but the 2.0L 156-HP engine was more responsive than I thought it would be and with the 6 speed transmission it didn't search for gears. Maybe they will bring the turbo diesel to the US for the 2014 model. My main concern was the seats. They seemed to have little lumbar support and it felt like my rear would go numb after a short while, They didn't have a leather option available for test drive so I don't know if the leather seats are better. Maybe those are better, but that option is only available in the top end version.
Ford also has a new fuel efficient engine that they're putting in the 2013 escape. I expect that it would have more comfortable seats but a higher base price and maybe not handle as well. Now what Ford needs to do is put this engine and a 6-speed transmission in a Transit and I'd be all set!
