If you go to the Great Lakes Art Fair web site and browse the images in the artist gallery, you initially see only 24 artists alphabetically listed unless you press the small "more...." link at the bottom of the list. Then it adds more artists to the list and you have to press the small "more..." link again and again to see all the artists. Same if you sort by medium unless there is under 24 artists in the particular medium.

Is this an issue with Entry Thingy or is it the way the Great Lakes Art Fair web site has been programmed? Either way it's not fair to any artists who come in after #24 when last names are sorted alphabetically.

I'm going to give Chris Ritke a call and ask him about it.

  • Hi Larry, Yes, that's the EntryThingy gallery widget doing its thing... how many images show before you get the more... link depends on the settings for that widget but there does have to be a limit or it would take forever to load... and either way, some are going to have to be on top and some further down... what would you suggest to improve this?
    • Hi Chris, It's not fair for the artists whose names and sample images don't appear when someone selects a medium. When a medium is selected, all images for that medium should appear simultaneously. This shouldn't be something a show selects in their interface, it should just happen. Same with not selecting a medium. When no medium is selected, all artists in the show should be represented on that page.

Now for a suggestion that shouldn't be too difficult to program.
A printable version of the artist list with medium and booth numbers would be very helpful so people can plan in advance which artists and where they are located within the show. My preference is to sort by either artist name or medium.

      • Ooops. Didn't see this until now... I thought I'd get notifications on replies.... forgot to click the follow link.

I'm working on a solution for this... it will automatically load the next batch as you scroll down so it'll be as if it's all there from the start but still keep loading to a minimum.

The booth numbers are shown for each artist when you click on an image to see the details for that artist... I do like your suggestion of a printable copy that people could use to plan their visit and take along to the show... have to think about that for a bit!

        Thanks!
        • What if you want to print the page with thumbnails without scrolling? They should automatically load entirely when the medium is chosen, not incrementally as you scroll. Chose a medium and see the artists in that medium, period.

And though it appears that I'm up 24 hours, it's just a rumor. I'm finishing uploading a set of images for an artist that I photographed her work today. Thanks for responding and trying to fix the issue.

          • Yes, that's why I have to think about the printing part... it would be a separate, specially formatted popup page with a print link that sends the page to the printer.

Lots to think about. Now how about we both get some sleep?
            • I'm not understanding. Why try and be fancy? Just have the page load fully for each medium. That's the way any art show web site is structured.
