Lark Publications has announced the winners of its competition for 500 Art Necklaces which comes out in July. "Hundreds of artists from around the world submitted work for the book, and we tried to capture the power, vitality, and imagination of
contemporary art jewelry in this collection."
Several of those chosen are members here:
Barbara Poole is a fiber artist. I'd surely like to know the intricacies of creating this imaginative piece.

Gloria's work is polymer clay. Have you ever seen any like this before?

Congratulations to you also. That is beautiful, Patty -- can you give me a description? I have no idea about the materials.
My necklace is also included in this book!!!! Photo by Larry Sanders.
Congratulations to you also, Laurie. This is so beautiful. It took so many skills (of course imagination also) to make this. What can you tell me about its construction?
Do you know, does the book include descriptions of the necklaces, how they were made, as well as info about the jewelers?
Connie,
Thanks for your kind words! I was a watercolor artist for 20 some years doing the shows and was very successful with it for quite a while. Eventually, my work hit a slow (to say the least) point and I either had to change what I was doing or go get a job. So I decided to try my hand at jewelry making using my own artwork. I sculpt the setting out of an air dry clay that dries hard enough to withstand the casting process and then cast it in pewter. The cord is hand dyed silk. The image is covered with a jewelry grade resin.
I've seen the other books, like 1000 beads, etc and it looks like they have a little quote from the artist (probably what you put on the application) and photo credits and the artist's name.
I have not been contacted by the author or the publisher except to congratulate me for being accepted. They are using my photo as far as I know.
As you can imagine, I'm thrilled!
I just love this piece, Laurie. Beautiful face and now I understand why it is so perfect.
You are not the only artist whose 2D art lost its buyers and recreated herself in another medium. Dawn DeSanto who now designs clothing made a very good living for a number of years as a printmaker. Then one day (after she had acquired a husband and 2 kids) the market totally went away. She even had a rep ...
Connie,
It was not easy to basically start all over, but I'm really glad I did. My boxes are so much lighter now!
