Maximizing Booth Set Up?

I have a show coming up in Lubbock and am wondering if anyone has ever used a particular set up I'm considering - with only 6 Pro Panels, I thought about configuring in an sideways "H" in center of my 10' x 10' booth - where patrons would circle around art to view rather than around the perimeter...I would have 5' of display space facing out, with a total of 4 sides measuring 5' each.

This would give me maximum display using both sides of each panel - just not sure it would be inviting enough to get people inside the booth or if they would hesitate to enter, feeling "trapped".

Has anyone every used this set up? if so, was it effective? Any input would be most appreciated!

  • Another artist gave me an interesting analogy on booth layout a couple of years ago. He said people are like horses; they don't like to go into either dark spaces or confined spaces.

On a practical issue, your H layout leave 2.5 feet between the outer wall and your panels. People are going to brush against your artwork, possibly knocking it down or getting them wet or muddy during rainy weather. Consider wet dogs being led by their owners as they go through the narrow passages, then think about those dogs shaking themselves when they get wet.

A judge at a mock jury comment on a booth one time the she didn't want to go inside a booth so tight that things would touch her butt when she turned around. You're trying to get 30 feet of wall space with 15 feet of panels. It's just not feasible to try it and have a booth that will draw people in.
  • The H won't work in a busy show because there will be too narrow a space on each side for people to walk through, especially if someone is standing there. Even worse if starts to rain. 12 panels 30 inches wide will do a full 10x10 booth and maximize the amount of hanging space as well as floor space.
