Hi all!
I've come here several times over the years, reading about displays, marketing, selling, etc and have always found the information useful. I decided to become official and register because this year is the year that I will be successful with shows.
I've done two local craft shows and a studio tour. None were successful, I guess because I didn't see them as official shows. One was at my kid's elementary school gymnasium (so I felt I was just helping them get it off the ground), one was at a well off neighborhood clubhouse, and the last was my first venture in a studio tour (see "worst show" in my profile).
This year, I juried into an actual art fair (without a booth photo too!) that will be in October, and I will participate in two studio tours (one at a friend's house, and the other at MINE). So it's past time to get official!
I still need to purchase my tent and am on the fence with my display walls...to plunk down $$ for propanels or to make my own propanels (already read the how-to). I'm weary of anything alternate because of my past experience.
Anyway, enough of the novel - I just wanted to say hi and thanks to everyone for sharing your experience!

Welcome to AFI! Good luck at your first show...let us know how it goes.
Hi Janae and welcome to AFI :) Yes, it can be very expensive setting up and then continually tweaking but there have been some very creative ideas posted here that can save some $. Looking forward to some show reports when you get going!
So pleased to have you here, Janae, and look forward to your contributions to the site. As you've learned you can find all kinds of helpful information here (and thanks for reading before asking) and keep us apprised of your results at the shows. You've done it just right, test the waters in the easy places, and gradually build up to the bigger venues. Be smart, don't get carried away without doing your research. Read between the lines on the reviews and test your ideas online before you spend the $$$. Best wishes.
