This is the kind of news I do not like to report. An email I received today:

We are sorry to inform you that the Hidden Glen Arts Festival has been sidelined for the 2011 season. This break allows us time to evaluate the Festival's feasibility in view of the current economic and competitive environment.  Our challenges include identifying additional Board of Directors candidates and key committee chairmen, securing more funding, volunteers, and all the associated support that goes into the production of a successful Festival. We appreciate your on-going  support, especially that of our dedicated Purchase Patrons.

This will very probably be our final year to offer three high school art scholarships. The application deadline was February 28. Judging will commence this weekend. All applicants will be contacted by letter. Our reception for the three scholarship winners, their families, and their art teachers will be April 21, 7pm, at the Cedar Creek Swim and Racquet Clubhouse, Olathe, KS. Thank you to everyone who made this scholarship information available to our Johnson County seniors.

Thank you for a wonderful 22 years of incredible art in Cedar Creek.  Please contact us at info@hiddenglen.org with any suggestions that you might have.

Regards,

Meg Schimmels

Two years ago there were a good number of art fairs that came to a halt because of the economic downturn but I haven't heard of any in a long time. This show seems to have been run almost completely by volunteer support, an artist's favorite kind of event. Best wishes to the Hidden Glen board and we hope to see you back with us next year.

Has anyone done this show? Or have you heard of any other events being cancelled?

  • FYI - I did not delete the missing comments here. When a member discontinues their membership here their comments are automatically deleted from the system.

  • This is good news Connie. More marginal shows need to take a hiatus. It is time to stop wasting people's (artists) time. We can not keep showing up so that vendors sell more funnel cakes.
  • Egads.  Guess I'll scratch this of my list for this year.  The application was up on Zapp a couple of weeks ago - I have the prospectus hanging on my deadlines wall.  I'm glad I didn't apply early.
